But at least it has a cool name.  After an extensive poll by the Royal Society of Chemistry in London, the Large Hadron Collider has a name. Halo.

“Large Hadron Collider” may be descriptive, but it “fails to reflect the drama of its mission, or the inspiration it should be conveying to the wider public,” says Dr Richard Pike, chief executive of the Society.

The name will now be formally suggested to the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) and to the Institute of Physics.

I don’t know, though. The Haloes were meant to destroy the Universe, not discover the nature of it. Perhaps a forerunner of things to come?
